Children of Promise, NYC's Clinical Training Institute is newly recognized by the State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for all licensed social workers (LMSWs and LCSWs) centered around the treatment of parental incarceration as a primary childhood trauma.

Clinical & Advocacy Focused Practices

The Institute's courses will teach practitioners, teachers, service providers, and anyone else looking to learn more about the clinical and advocacy-focused practices within our community-based model. With an emphasis on the legacy of oppressive social and political forces on mass incarceration today, and the anti-racist focus behind the therapeutic services employed at our agency, practitioners will learn to combat this oppression on a macro, mezzo, and micro level.

Courses are oriented towards practitioners and service providers, but are open to any individual looking to develop their evidence-based skills working with justice-impacted populations and children who have experienced trauma.

What’s been said

There was a lot of sharing, both personal and informational, that helped set the stage to understand the goals and objectives of the workshop.
I found the presenters to be knowledgable about the topic on hand. I did not have prior experience of working with incarcerated families, and feel I will be more equipped to respond to presenting problems with families.
I can now understand the use of narrative therapy and really hearing what those you are in partnership with state as their primary trauma.

I learned so much from this workshop and look forward to my new added/learned responsibility to incorporate this into my personal life and clinical practice. I am grateful to have been a part of such an open, safe and crucial conversation and to have learned more about the outstanding work being done at Children of Promise.
