Who We Are

In 2009, Children of Promise, NYC was founded as the first and only after-school program and summer day camp in NYC specifically designed to meet the needs, interests, and concerns of children left behind by a parent serving time in prison.

Our Mission

At Children of Promise, NYC, our mission is to disrupt intergenerational cycles of trauma and poverty by delivering high-impact educational support, mental health care, youth advocacy, and family stabilization programs.

Our Vision

We envision a society where every child, regardless of circumstance, has access to the resources, resilience, and community needed to thrive.

Why Children of Promise NYC?

2.7 million children in the US suffer socially, emotionally, and economically as a result of parental incarceration. In New York alone, there are 105,000 children impacted by parental incarceration. They are facing uncertainty and trauma from changing living arrangements or being separated from their siblings. Beyond these stressors, children with an incarcerated loved one may struggle with the stigma and shame of having a parent in prison.

Who We Serve

CPNYC serves Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) ages 6 - 18 who are facing the adverse childhood experience of parental incarceration. With strategic geographic locations in Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn and the South Bronx, we provide an integrative approach to mental health and out-of-school time services when and where it is needed the most. Currently, 100% of the children and families we serve are BIPOC and the vast majority are living at or below the poverty line.
