When the COVID-19 pandemic hit NYC in March 2020, it brought to the surface many of the issues our children and families have experienced for far too long. Children of Promise, NYC established CPNYC Cares to support our families in meeting their basic needs and ensuring that our mental health, educational, and food services continued amidst remote learning.

350+ families

We worked with our participants and their families in Brooklyn and the Bronx to provide ongoing virtual mental health services and a 24-hour hotline connecting our families to CPNYC staff.

monetary and tangible aid

We distributed over $50,000 in $500 gift cards to allow our families to meet their unique needs as well as provided laptops, grab and go hot meals, cleaning supplies, and more to provide immediate support.

educational support

As a NYC Department of Education Learning Bridge site we were able to support not only our participants but additional students in the community who lacked the technology to attend remote classes.

Learning Lab

During the 2020-2021 academic school year, most New York City Department of Education schools and early childhood programs operated on a blended learning model. The NYC DOE Learning Bridges, or Learning Labs, program provided free child care for children kindergarten through 8th grade on days when they were scheduled for remote learning. CPNYC participated at both our Brooklyn and Bronx locations.

Promise Academic Support Services (PASS)

The PASS Program provided CPNYC students, K-12, with virtual 1:1 tutoring to improve grades, raise test scores, and build confidence in the classroom. Tutors provided online tutoring in reading, writing, math, vocabulary, and literacy after-school, during Summer Camp, and at our Saturday Resource Center.

COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment Enrollment

For the Spring 2021 academic semester, CPNYC and Community Healthworks provided weekly COVID-19 testing to our families, CPNYC staff, and the greater community at both our locations.

In spring 2021, Children of Promise, NYC was authorized to schedule appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine, in partnership with the NYC Department of Health.
